![]() Synergy Services, Inc. is committed to creating a "safe today" and a "strong tomorrow" for the women, children and families we serve. Through our mission, we envision a world without family violence, abuse or neglect. We embrace the challenge of providing quality services for people of all ages as we strive to empower individuals, families and the community. Synergy Services, Inc. began in 1970 as Synergy House, the only shelter for runaway and homeless youth in western Missouri. In 1984, SafeHaven opened to serve victims of domestic violence and to provide outpatient counseling, individual advocacy, court advocacy, and support groups. It was also during the mid-1980s that the Children's Advocacy Council began offering prevention programming and mentoring services to benefit at-risk youth. Synergy House and SafeHaven merged in June 1997, and the Children's Advocacy Council joined Synergy in July of 1997 forming Synergy Services, Inc. With these mergers, Synergy is now able to provide intervention emergency shelter, crisis hotlines, residential services, advocacy, mentoring, therapeutic services and prevention education to adults, youth and children in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. Primarily serving the Northland communities of Clay, Platte, and Ray counties of the Greater Kansas City region, Synergy's program outreach now extends into Jackson County in Missouri and into Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas. Synergy reaches out to more than 30,000 people each year. Through a blending of programs and services, combined with an ongoing strategic analysis of community needs, Synergy Services, Inc. has developed a unique approach to violence intervention. Whether a client enters through one of Synergy's five shelters, is the beneficiary of one of the agency's mentoring program, obtains assistance through court advocacy, learns strategies for positive decision-making through the community education curriculum, or takes advantage of the comprehensive family therapy department, each client is offered the full range of Synergy's continuum-of-care. Not only does the agency work to break the cycle of violence, it focuses on instituting genuine social change in an effort to build a safe and more humane society. Synergy is fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Children and Families (COA) and is a United Way Agency. The organization operates nine facilities and employs 125 full and part-time staff. Synergy's operating budget is nearly $6 million dollars and is governed by a 28-member volunteer Board of Directors.
